Link : FIXY Android Head Unit | 9.7" vertical screen for Subaru (2017+)
Many Subaru owners love their cars but feel the factory infotainment system is outdated. Small screens, slow interfaces, and wired CarPlay can make the interior feel older than it should.
We spoke with Sid, a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek owner, who installed the FIXY Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Head Unit in his vehicle.
After one month of daily use, here’s what he had to say.
Why upgrade the Subaru head unit?
“The stock screen worked, but it's as big as my phone! I wanted something that looked OEM but felt like a modern car.”
The FIXY head unit replaces the factory system with a 9.7" QLED touchscreen designed specifically for Subaru interiors.
Compatible models include :
- Subaru Impreza (2017–2023)
- Subaru Crosstrek / XV (2018–2022)
- Subaru Forester (2018–2022)
Installation : surprisingly easy
One of the biggest concerns with upgrading a head unit is installation.
Sid’s experience?
“Honestly it was simpler than IKEA furniture.”
Because the system is plug and play, it connects directly to the factory wiring without major modifications. Just like I showcased in my video install.
The biggest upgrade : wireless CarPlay
For daily driving, the biggest improvement was wireless Apple CarPlay.
“My phone connects automatically every time I start the car. No more cables.”
Drivers can instantly access:
- Google Maps / Apple Maps
- Spotify or Apple Music
- Calls and messages
- Podcasts and apps
A much larger screen
The 9.7-inch QLED display is significantly larger than the factory screen.
“The screen is basically double the OEM size but still looks factory.”
The brighter display also improves visibility for navigation and media.
Better sound control
The head unit includes a 4×50W amplified output and detailed equalizer controls, allowing drivers to fine-tune their audio settings.
“I can adjust the stereo much more precisely now, especially with the upgraded stereo I put in my impreza. Music sounds noticeably better, more precise and deeper bass.”
Any downsides?
Sid mentioned two small things:
- Backup camera guide lines aren’t perfectly aligned
- No physical volume knob (but steering wheel controls still work)
Neither issue affected daily usability.
Final verdict after 1 month
After a month of driving with the new system:
“It honestly feels like driving a newer car, without having to buy a new car.”
For Subaru owners looking for a modern infotainment upgrade, the FIXY wireless CarPlay head unit offers :
- plug-and-play installation
- large QLED touchscreen
- wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- improved sound control
All while keeping the clean OEM look of the interior.
